Sandeep finds progress despite mishap
India´s Volkswagen Scirocco Cup rookie Sandeep Kumar saw amazing progress in pace in Norisring compared to the previous rounds with his Scirocco. He improved his timing by working on the data and was lapping within the top5 during the initial stages qualifying until hitting the wall in the narrow street circuit of Norisring.
Sandeep said: "The weekend at Norisring was very good. Amazing circuit with great crowd and a lot of history with it. The Weekend was developing nicely from practice to qualifying to race. The practice was on Friday and i managed to be 15th fastest . Later we looked into the our data and found scope for improvement and it was positive for qualifying. I was in top 5 after our first stint in qualifying later dropped to 10th. Then we expected to improve some more in our second stint from 10th but I touched the wall so I had to abort the session. It was overall a great qualifying as it was the best till then."
In the race he was running 7th after great start from 10th on the grid until forced into the wall shortly after the restart from which he had to go for damage limitation.
Sandeep reflected on the race: " I had a good start at the race and moved up the field and was running 7th and we had a safety car situation and which made the grid close again. After the restart was forced into the wall which messed up the wheel alignment after which i only had to defend from loosing many places."
The young rookie finished 14th overall and the positive thing was he clocked the 4th fastest time in race.
Sandeep completed: "Overall It was a great weekend for us thanks to Ronny , he helped a lot. Big thanks to my Dad, VW , Jk and Meco motorsports for making everything possible and i am looking forward to perform better at the next round in Nurburgring."
